CECC confirms 15,416 more COVID-19 cases, including 15,316 domestic cases and 100 imported cases


On December 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 15,416 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 15,416 new cases, 15,316 are domestic and 100 are imported. The CECC announced 24 deaths today.

Regarding the 15,316 new domestic cases, 6,830 are male and 8,473 are female, while the gender of the other 13 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 2,889 were reported in New Taipei City, 1,978 in Taichung City, 1,875 in Taoyuan City, 1,736 in Kaohsiung City, 1,487 in Taipei City, 1,191 in Tainan City, 725 in Changhua County, 549 in Hsinchu County, 449 in Hsinchu City, 423 in Pingtung County, 415 in Miaoli County, 316 in Yunlin County, 224 in Chiayi County, 223 in Nantou County, 182 in Keelung City, 174 in Yilan County, 148 in Hualien County, 126 in Chiayi City, 91 in Taitung County, 66 in Kinmen County, 47 in Penghu County, and two in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 24 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 14 men and 10 women ranging in age from 50 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 100 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between November 15 and December 15, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 20,409,666 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 11,861,425. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 8,547,315 cases. Of the 8,547,315 confirmed cases, 38,627 are imported; 8,508,634 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 14,820 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 14,820 deaths, 14,803 are from domestic cases and the other 17 are from imported cases.
