CECC confirms 28,847 more COVID-19 cases, including 28,806 domestic cases and 41 imported cases


On October 17, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 28,847 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 28,847 new cases, 28,806 are domestic and 41 are imported. The CECC announced 53 deaths today.

Regarding the 28,806 new domestic cases, 13,399 are male and 15,389 are female, while the gender of the other 18 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 5,540 were reported in New Taipei City, 3,458 in Taichung City, 3,359 in Taoyuan City, 3,178 in Kaohsiung City, 2,836 in Taipei City, 2,289 in Tainan City, 1,620 in Changhua County, 933 in Pingtung County, 746 in Hsinchu County, 667 in Yunlin County, 658 in Miaoli County, 589 in Hsinchu City, 502 in Yilan County, 490 in Chiayi County, 461 in Nantou County, 388 in Keelung City, 378 in Hualien County, 279 in Chiayi City, 192 in Taitung County, 110 in Kinmen County, 108 in Penghu County, and 25 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 53 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 26 men and 27 women ranging in age from 50 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 41 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between September 16 and October 16, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 18,769,105 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 11,553,607. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 7,212,738 cases. Of the 7,212,738 confirmed cases, 35,800 are imported; 7,176,884 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 11,961 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 11,961 deaths, 11,945 are from domestic cases and the other 16 are from imported cases.
