On May 12, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 16 new confirmed indigenous cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and one new case under investigation in Taiwan. Those new cases are all Taiwanese nationals. Of the 16 new cases, three (Case #1216, Case #1231 and Case #1232) are contacts of cases linked to an amusement arcade in Yilan; ten (Case #1218, Case #1219 and Cases #1223-1230) are contacts of Case #1203; three are individuals (Case 1217, Case #1220, Case #1221) whose sources of infection have yet to be determined; and one (Case #1222) is a contact of Case #1187 and is under investigation.
Case #1216, Case #1231 and Case #1232 are a female in her 30s, a boy under age of 10 and a female in her 60s, respectively. Case #1216 is an employee at Galaxy Baccarat arcade (銀河百家樂) in Yilan's Luodong Township. Case #1231 is a contact of Case #1211, and Case #1232 is a contact of Case #1210.
Case #1217 is an over 50-year-old female. She sought medical attention at a clinic five times between May 4 and May 10. Because her symptoms persisted, she sought medical attention at a hospital on May 11. The hospital gave her a COVID-19 test and reported the case; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 12.
Case #1218, Case #1219, and Cases #1223-1230 are five women and five men, and they are between 50 and 79 years old. Of the 10 individuals, one is a family member and lives with Case #1203, and the other nine are friends of Case #1203.
Case #1220 is an over 60-year-old female who works at Hongda Tea House (鴻達茶藝館) on Sanshui Stree in Taipei's Wanhua District. She began to experience fatigue, a fever, and discomfort in her throat on May 6. She sought medical attention at a hospital on May 11. The hospital gave her a COVID-19 test and reported the case; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 12.
Case #1221 is an over 50-year-old female who works at Fengxiang Tea House (楓香清茶館) on Section 1, Xiyuan Road in Taipei's Wanhua Distict. She began to experience an itchy throat, a cough, and chills on May 10. She visited the hospital for testing on May 11. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 12.
Case #1222 is an over 30-year-old female who is a flight attendant. She was on duty with Case #1187 in Vietnam on May 5. She developed a sore throat on May 9, but she didn't seek medical attention. She was tested for COVID-19 on May 10; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 12. The case's source of infection is under investigation.
The CECC pointed out that the new cases confirmed today had visited some public venues during infectious period. The venues they visited and the time periods are listed in the attachment. Members of the public who have visited those locations during the time periods mentioned in the attachment are reminded to practice self-health monitoring for 14 days. If suspected symptoms develop, members of the public must put on a mask and voluntarily inform the physician of any history of contact and activity; members of the public may not take public transportation when seeking medical attention.
