CECC confirms 4,204 more COVID-19 cases, including 4,126 domestic cases and 78 imported cases


On April 23, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 4,204 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 4,204 new cases, 4,126 are domestic and 78 are imported (58 of them tested positive after landing). The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the 4,126 new domestic cases, 2,047 are male and 2,078 are female while the gender of the other one is still under investigation. They range in age from under five to 99 years. They suffered the onset of symptoms between April 7 and April 23, while 2,126 of them didn't develop symptoms. Of those domestic cases, 1,563 were reported in New Taipei City, 945 in Taipei City, 527 in Taoyuan City, 219 in Keelung City, 171 in Taichung City, 138 in Hualien County, 98 in Kaohsiung City, 90 in Yilan County, 57 in Hsinchu County, 53 in Yunlin County, 51 each in Hsinchu City and Tainan City, 34 in Changhua County, 29 in Taitung County, 28 in Miaoli County, 26 in Nantou County, 24 in Pingtung County, 10 in Chiayi City, seven in Chiayi County, two each in Kinmen County and Lienchiang County, and one in Penghu County.

Regarding the 78 new imported cases, they are 35 men and 43 women ranging in age from under 10 to 89 years. Of the cases, two arrived from Vietnam and one each in Canada, Thailand, Philippines and the US; the areas the remaining 72 cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between March 23 and April 22, 2022.

Additionally, imported case #42932 announced on April 21 has been reclassified as a domestic case according to an epidemiological investigation. Additionally, domestic cases#45506, #46453, and #47199 announced on April 22 have been reclassified as imported cases after epidemiological investigations found that they had arrived from Indonesia, Germany, and Denmark.

The CECC reported that a total of 8,011,272 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 7,959,488. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 51,298 cases. Of the 51,298 confirmed cases, 10,267 are imported; 40,977 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 212 cases (six newly added; six domestic cases were removed due to duplicate records or negative results after epidemiological investigations) have been removed as confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 856 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 856 deaths, 842 are from domestic cases and the other 14 are from imported cases.
