CECC confirms 5,172 more COVID-19 cases, including 5,092 domestic cases and 80 imported cases


On April 24, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 5,172 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 5,172 new cases, 5,092 are domestic and 80 are imported (72 of them tested positive after landing). The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the 5,092 new domestic cases, 2,446 are male and 2,641 are female while the gender of the other five is still under investigation. They range in age from under five to 99 years. They suffered the onset of symptoms between February 23 and April 24, while 2,957 of them didn't develop symptoms. Of those domestic cases, 1,731 were reported in New Taipei City, 1,071 in Taoyuan City, 1,027 in Taipei City, 301 in Keelung City, 182 in Hualien County, 150 in Taichung City, 147 in Kaohsiung City, 122 in Yilan County, 57 in Hsinchu County, 56 in Changhua County, 47 in Tainan City, 40 in Pingtung County, 38 in Yunlin County, 29 in Taitung County, 24 in Miaoli County, 20 in Hsinchu City, 17 in Chiayi City, 15 in Chiayi County, 11 in Nantou County, four in Kinmen County, two in Lienchiang County, and one in Penghu County.

Regarding the 80 new imported cases, they are 40 men and 40 women ranging in age from under five to 89 years. Of the cases, one arrived from Vietnam, while the areas the remaining 79 cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between April 6 and April 23, 2022.

Additionally, imported case #37622 announced on April 19 has been reclassified as a domestic case according to an epidemiological investigation. Additionally, case#46993 announced on April 19, domestic cases #51398 and #51426 announced on April 23 have been reclassified as imported cases after epidemiological investigations found that they had arrived from Thailand and the US.

The CECC reported that a total of 8,065,698 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,009048. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 56,498 cases. Of the 56,498 confirmed cases, 10,349 are imported; 46,065 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 214 cases (two newly added; two domestic cases were removed due to duplicate records or negative results after epidemiological investigations) have been removed as confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 856 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 856 deaths, 842 are from domestic cases and the other 14 are from imported cases.
