On January 2, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 20 new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the 20 new imported cases, they are ten men and ten women, aged between under five to 69 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from the US (11 cases), Canada, Australia, the UK (two cases), Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Greece, and China. They arrived between December 12 and December 31.

The CECC reported that a total of 4,972,057 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 4,951,828. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 17,070 cases. Of the 17,070 confirmed cases, 2,416 are imported; 14,600 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 111 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 850 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 850 deaths, 838 are from domestic cases and the other 12 are from imported cases.
