CECC confirms 5 more COVID-19 cases; cases travel to Taiwan for work from India, Indonesia, and Philippines


On November 2, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced five new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those five cases (Cases #560-564) are all foreign nationals who traveled from India, Indonesia, and the Philippines to work in Taiwan.

Case #560 is an Indian man in his 30s. He traveled to Taiwan for work on October 15, and he hasn't developed any symptoms since arrival. After completing the home quarantine period, the case took a COVID-19 test on October 31 at his own expense. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 2.

Case #561 is an Indonesian woman in her 30s. She visited Taiwan for work on October 18, and she hasn't developed any symptoms since arrival. Before completing the quarantine period, she underwent a COVID-19 test on October 31. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 2.

Case #562 is an Indonesian woman in her 30s. She traveled to Taiwan for work on October 10. The Indonesian woman underwent a COVID-19 test on October 23 before completing the quarantine period, and she tested negative. After completing the quarantine period on October 25, she stayed at a dormitory for self-health management. The Indonesian woman took a self-paid COVID-19 test on October 30. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 2.

Case #563 is an Indonesian man in his 20s. The Indonesian man entered Taiwan on October 14, and he didn't develop any symptoms during the quarantine period. After completing the quarantine period, the case took a self-paid COVID-19 test and tested negative. The case experienced a cough and sore throat on October 30, and he was identified as a close contact of Case #558. The case was then admitted to a hospital and placed in isolation, and he was tested for COVID-19 at the hospital. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 2.

Case #564 is a Filipina in her 20s. She traveled to Taiwan for work on October 19, and she hasn't experienced any symptoms since arrival. The Filipina underwent a COVID-19 test on November 1 before completing the quarantine period, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 2.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 102,153 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 100,830. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 563 cases. Of the 563 confirmed cases, 471 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed from confirmed cases (Case#530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 519 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 37 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
