CECC confirms 18 more COVID-19 cases, including 4 domestic cases and 14 imported cases


On August 17, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 18 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 18 new cases, four are domestic and the other 14 are imported. The CECC reported no deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the four domestic cases (of whom, two tested positive while they in home isolation or completed their isolation period), three are male and the other one is female, aged between under 5 to 69 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms on August 16. Of those domestic cases, two cases each were reported in Taipei City and New Taipei City.

Regarding the 14 new imported cases, they are eight men and six women, aged between under 5 to 69 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from the United States (two cases), the UK (two cases), Myanmar (nine cases), and Australia. They arrived between August 3 and August 15.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,382,988 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,365,884. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,880 cases. Of the 15,880 confirmed cases, 1,346 are imported; 14,481 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 821 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 821 deaths, 813 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
