On October 8, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced one new confirmed imported case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. The case is a Filipino ship crew member in his 50s (Case #524). The case entered Taiwan to work in the country on September 15. The result for the test he took within three days before boarding his flight to Taiwan was negative, and he also tested negative upon arrival in Taiwan.

The CECC reported that the case hasn't developed any symptoms since arrival. The case completed the quarantine period at a group quarantine facility on September 30. On October 5, he took a self-paid COVID-19 test arranged by the company for which he worked. Infection with COVID-19 is laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 8. The case is currently hospitalized in isolation.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 95,691 cases related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 94,444. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 524 cases. Of the 524 confirmed cases, 432 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; and 1 case has unknown sources of infection. Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 487 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 30 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
