On August 20, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 22,161 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 22,161 new cases, 21,925 are domestic and 236 are imported. The CECC announced 36 deaths today.

Regarding the 21,925 new domestic cases, 9,989 are male and 11,928 are female, while the gender of the other eight cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 4,488 were reported in New Taipei City, 2,689 in Taichung City, 2,634 in Taipei City, 2,465 in Taoyuan City, 1,751 in Kaohsiung City, 1,336 in Tainan City, 949 in Changhua County, 628 in Hsinchu County, 609 in Hsinchu City, 579 in Pingtung County, 565 in Miaoli County, 545 in Yilan County, 510 in Yunlin County, 456 in Hualien County, 413 in Nantou County, 377 in Keelung City, 304 in Chiayi County, 215 in Chiayi City, 204 in Taitung County, 130 in Kinmen County, 90 in Penghu County, and 15 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 36 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 23 men and 13 women ranging in age from 40 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 236 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between July 22 and August 19, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 15,669,615 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 10,640,953. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 5,020,895 cases. Of the 5,020,895 confirmed cases, 24,810 are imported; 4,996,031 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 9,608 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 9,608 deaths, 9,592 are from domestic cases and the other 16 are from imported cases.
