On June 18, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 188 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 188 cases, 187 are indigenous and the other one is imported. The CECC also announced 21 deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the 187 indigenous cases, 83 are men and the other 104 are women, aged between under 5 and 99 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between May 29 and June 17, 2021. Regarding those indigenous cases, New Taipei City reported most cases, at 76, and Taipei City had the second highest number, at 71. Miaoli County reported 26 cases; Taoyuan City reported 6; Keelung City reported 4; Taichung City reported 2; Hualien County and Hsinchu County reported 1 each.

Regarding the 21 deaths announced today, they were 12 men and nine women between 50 and 99 years old.

Regarding the new imported case, Case #13801 is an over 30-year-old male sailor from India. He traveled to Taiwan for work on March 5, and he boarded a ship and headed out to sea for work on April 3. He returned to a port of Taiwan on June 16. As he planned to leave the country, he was tested for COVID-19 the same day. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on June 18.

The CECC reported that a total of 1,011,097 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 993,010. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 13,771 cases. Of the 13,771 confirmed cases, 1,162 are imported; 12,556 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated; and a cumulative total of 95 cases (including 1 newly added) have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 518 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 518 deaths, 511 are indigenous cases and the other 7 are imported cases.
