CECC confirms 3 more imported COVID-19 cases; cases return to Taiwan from US and France


On October 6, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced three new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the three new cases, two are Taiwanese men in their 30s (Cases #519 and #521), and the other case is a Taiwanese woman in her 20s (case #520). They entered Taiwan from the United States and France.

Case #519 worked in the United States for an extended period of time and showed no symptoms. The case returned to Taiwan on October 4. When he entered Taiwan, the case voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers that he experienced an itchy throat during the flight. Quarantine officers then arranged his COVID-19 testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 6.

Case #520 developed a fever, headache, runny nose, stuffy nose, and an abnormal sense of smell between September 27 and September 30. However, the case didn't seek medical attention in France. She returned to Taiwan on October 4. The case voluntarily notified quarantine officers that she experienced symptoms when entering Taiwan. She was tested for COVID-19 at the airport, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 6.

Case #521 worked in the United States for an extended period of time. The case developed diarrhea and throat swelling from October 3. He returned to Taiwan October 4. The case voluntarily notified quarantine officers that he experienced diarrhea. He was tested for COVID-19 at the airport, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on October 6.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 95,089 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 93,745. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 521 cases. Of the 521 confirmed cases, 429 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; and 1 case has unknown sources of infection. Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 485 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 29 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
