On May 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 207 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 207 new cases, 206 are indigenous and the other one is imported.

The CECC pointed out that of the 206 indigenous cases, 90 are men and the other 116 are women ranging in ages from under 5 to 89 years old. They began to develop symptoms/were tested between April 6 and May 15. Of 206 individuals, 89 reside in Taipei City; 97 in New Taipei City; 9 in Changhua County; 3 in Yilan County; 3 in Hsinchu County; 2 in Taoyuan City; 2 in Keelung City; and 1 in Taichung City.

The CECC also confirmed one new imported case today. The new imported case is an over 20-year-old woman from India and arrived in Taiwan on May 8. She was asymptomatic during her stay in Taiwan .Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 15.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 237,343 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 229,781. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1682 cases. Of the 1682 confirmed cases, 1079 are imported; 550 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 12 deaths.
