On May 22, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 323 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 323 new cases, 321 are indigenous and the other two (Case #3462 and Case #3867) are imported. Furthermore, the CECC retroactively added 400 cases to the total number of COVID-19 cases calculated over the past week. The CECC also announced two deaths (Case #3097 and Case #3553) today.

The CECC pointed out that of the 321 indigenous cases, 162 are men and the other 159 are women ranging in ages from under 5 to 99 years old. They began to develop symptoms/were tested between May 10 and May 21. Of the 400 cases retroactively added to the tally for the last week, 185 are men and the other 215 are women ranging in ages from under 5 to 99 years old. They began to develop symptoms/were tested between May 7 and May 20. Of those individuals, 384 reside in New Taipei City (103 in Banqiao District); 269 in Taipei City (174 in Wanhua District); 20 in Taoyuan City; 11 in Taichung City; 9 in Keelung City; 5 in Pingtung County; 4 in Changhua County; 4 in Kaohsiung City; 3 each in Yilan County, Hsinchu City and Hualien County; 2 in Hsinchu County; 1 each in Tainan City, Miaoli County, Nantou County and Yunlin County.

Regarding the two deaths, Case #3097 is an over 80-year-old male, and Case #3553 is an over 70-year-old male.

Regarding the two imported cases, Case #3462 is a Taiwanese man in his 30s. He tested positive for COVID-19 in January in the Philippines. He was tested for COVID-19 on April 23, and the test result came back negative. Due to work requirements, he took a self-paid test on May 19. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 22 (the CT value was 34; he was given a second PCR test, and his second test result was negative).

Case #3867 is a British man in his 30s. He traveled to Taiwan from the UK for work on April 28. After he completed his self-health management period on May 21, he took a self-paid test due to work requirements. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 22.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 337,455 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 298,513. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 3,862 cases. Of the 3,862 confirmed cases, 1,108 are imported; 2,701 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated; and 9 cases (Case #530, Case #1589, Case #1676, Case #1591, Case #1886, Case #2067, Case #2068, Case #2528 and Case #2530) have been removed (those case numbers are not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 17 deaths.
