CECC confirms 28,570 more COVID-19 cases, including 28,397 domestic cases and 173 imported cases


On August 24, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 28,570 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 28,570 new cases, 28,397 are domestic and 173 are imported. The CECC announced 18 deaths today.

Regarding the 28,397 new domestic cases, 12,998 are male and 15,390 are female, while the gender of the other nine cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 6,313 were reported in New Taipei City, 3,393 in Taichung City, 3,317 in Taipei City, 3,301 in Taoyuan City, 2,329 in Kaohsiung City, 1,705 in Tainan City, 1,090 in Changhua County, 858 in Hsinchu City, 839 in Hsinchu County, 744 in Miaoli County, 662 in Pingtung County, 614 in Yunlin County, 607 in Yilan County, 488 in Keelung City, 476 in Hualien County, 419 in Chiayi County, 411 in Nantou County, 309 in Taitung County, 232 in Chiayi City, 158 in Penghu County, 131 in Kinmen County, and 3 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 18 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 12 men and six women ranging in age from 30 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 173 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between July 24 and August 23, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 15,848,059 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 10,725,149. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 5,115,052 cases. Of the 5,115,052 confirmed cases, 25,767 are imported; 5,089,231 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 9,691 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 9,691 deaths, 9,675 are from domestic cases and the other 16 are from imported cases.
