On January 12, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 22,937 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 22,937 new cases, 22,653 are domestic and 284 are imported. The CECC announced 48 deaths today.

Regarding the 22,653 new domestic cases, 10,193 are male and 12,447 are female, while the gender of the other 13 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 4,676 were reported in New Taipei City, 2,917 in Taichung City, 2,707 in Kaohsiung City, 2,520 in Taoyuan City, 2,485 in Taipei City, 1,797 in Tainan City, 875 in Changhua County, 678 in Hsinchu County, 591 in Miaoli County, 572 in Hsinchu City, 507 in Pingtung County, 423 in Yunlin County, 361 in Keelung City, 326 in Nantou County, 323 in Yilan County, 319 in Chiayi County, 181 in Chiayi City, 157 in Hualien County, 97 in Taitung County, 88 in Kinmen County, 49 in Penghu County, and four in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 48 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 20 men and 28 women ranging in age from 20 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 284 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between December 14, 2022, and January 11, 2023.

The CECC reported that a total of 21,148,480 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 11,999,906. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 9,146,104 cases. Of the 9,146,104 confirmed cases, 44,178 are imported; 9,101,872 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 15,702 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 15,702 deaths, 15,683 are from domestic cases and the other 19 are from imported cases.
