On January 18, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced six new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those six new cases arrived in Taiwan from the United States, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and Myanmar.
Cases #857-859 are a Taiwanese woman in her 40s, a boy and a girl under 10, respectively, and they are a family. The family lived in the United States for an extended period of time and returned to Taiwan on January 4. During their home quarantine period, Case #858 and Case #859 haven't experienced any symptoms since arrival, whereas Case #857 began to develop coughing, fatigue, and other symptoms on January 11. The health authority then arranged for the case to seek medical attention and tested the three individuals for COVID-19. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on January 18.
Case #860 is a Swedish man who works in Taiwan. He visited the United Kingdom for official business on December 3, 2020, and returned to Taiwan on January 3, 2021. After arrival, he quarantined at a group quarantine facility and was given a COVID-19 on January 4. The test result came back negative. The Swedish man later experienced a headache on January 9. He was given a test on January 16 before completing the quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on January 18.
Case #861 is a Philippine woman in her teens. The Philippine woman traveled to Taiwan for studies on December 31, 2020. She hasn't experienced any symptoms since arrival. After completing the quarantine period, she went to the hospital to take a self-paid test on January 15, 2021. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on January 18.
Case #862 is an over 40-year-old male sailor from Myanmar. The sailor came to Taiwan for work on December 27, 2020. He hasn't developed any symptoms since arrival. After completing the self-health management period, he took a self-paid test on January 14, 2021. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on January 18.
