On January 3, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced one new confirmed domestic case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. The new domestic case is a Taiwanese woman in her 40s who worked as a janitor at an airport parking lot. The woman had no recent history of travel abroad and had received two doses of AZ. She experienced a fever, chills, coughing, a runny nose, and a sore throat on January 2, 2022. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on January 3.

The woman visited Zhongzhen Market and set up a stall selling children's earrings and other items in the market from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on December 30 and December 31.

The CECC urges members of the public who visited the market during the said period of time to practice self-health monitoring. If symptoms such as fever, upper respiratory symptoms, diarrhea, and abnormal sense of smell/taste develop, members of the public must put on a medical mask and visit a community testing site or designated testing station to undergo testing and assessment.
