CECC continues to monitor adverse events following vaccination and reminds elderly people to pay attention to its advice before vaccination

According to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) statistics, a total of 1,273,121 AstraZeneca shots were administered in Taiwan as of June 17; of the shots administered, 229,566 were given to elderly people aged 75 and older. Furthermore, the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) received 25 reports of death following vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine; 20 of the cases of death were elderly people aged 75 and older, and most cases of death were elderly people with chronic diseases. Postmortem examinations and autopsies by the judicial authority showed that the cause of death in some of the cases was preliminarily determined to be linked to cardiovascular diseases or chronic conditions. However, as of now, no cases of death have been confirmed to be linked to the vaccine.

The CECC provides the following advice to elderly people who are to receive COVID-19 vaccinations:
1. Those who experience symptoms or who are in an unstable condition due to chronic diseases are advised to get vaccinated after they are in a more stable condition.
2. Elderly people are advised to avoid visiting vaccination sites for vaccination during the hottest period of the day.
3. Vaccinations are available at clinics and local district public health centers. Elderly people are advised to visit the nearest clinic or public health center to get vaccinated.
