CECC confirms 72 more COVID-19 cases, including 40 domestic cases and 32 imported cases


On February 5, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 72 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 72 new cases, 40 are domestic and 32 are imported (13 of them tested positive after landing). The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the domestic cases, they are nine men and 31 women, aged between under five and 89 years old.

Regarding the 32 new imported cases, they are 19 men and 13 women, aged between ten and 69 years. 20 of them arrived in Taiwan from the US (eight cases), Japan (three cases), the Philippines (three cases), Switzerland, France, the UAE, Germany, Canada, and India; while the areas where the other 12 arrived are being investigated. They all arrived between January 20 and February 4, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 5,736,511 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 5,717,196. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 19,101 cases. Of the 19,101 confirmed cases, 3,864 are imported; 15,183 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 128 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 851 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 851 deaths, 838 are from domestic cases and the other 13 are from imported cases.
