CECC confirms 24,422 more COVID-19 cases, including 24,132 domestic cases and 290 imported cases


On January 7, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 24,422 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 24,422 new cases, 24,132 are domestic and 290 are imported. The CECC announced 61 deaths today.

Regarding the 24,132 new domestic cases, 10,875 are male and 13,244 are female, while the gender of the other 13 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 4,875 were reported in New Taipei City, 3,139 in Taichung City, 2,718 in Kaohsiung City, 2,683 in Taipei City, 2,596 in Taoyuan City, 1,961 in Tainan City, 1,082 in Changhua County, 781 in Hsinchu County, 656 in Hsinchu City, 533 in Miaoli County, 523 in Pingtung County, 456 in Yunlin County, 382 in Keelung City, 377 in Chiayi County, 338 in Yilan County, 338 in Nantou County, 225 in Chiayi City, 160 in Hualien County, 133 in Taitung County, 98 in Kinmen County, 70 in Penghu County, and eight in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 61 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 34 men and 27 women ranging in age from 30 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 290 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between December 7, 2022, and January 6, 2023.

The CECC reported that a total of 20,999,741 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 11,965,902. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 9,031,781 cases. Of the 9,031,781 confirmed cases, 42,312 are imported; 8,989,415 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 15,506 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 15,506 deaths, 15,487 are from domestic cases and the other 19 are from imported cases.
