On November 28, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 9 new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Among the 9 new cases, 8 traveled to Taiwan from Indonesia (Cases #641-644, and Cases #646-649), and one arrived from the United States (Case #645).
 
Cases #641-644 are all female migrant workers from Indonesia with their ages ranging from 20 to 40 years old. The four migrant workers took the same flight to Taiwan to work on November 25. The four Indonesian migrant workers had their specimens collected upon arrival. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on November 28.

Case #645 is a Taiwanese female in her 40s. The Taiwanese woman resided in the United States for an extended period of time (her most recent departure from Taiwan was in November 2019). Because she had planned to visit her family members in Taiwan, she returned to Taiwan on November 19. She has not developed suspected symptoms since arrival. During the home quarantine period, the Taiwanese woman took a self-paid COVID-19 test arranged by the health authority on November 26 because she applied to attend a funeral. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 28.

Cases# 646-647 and Case #649 are three female migrant workers from Indonesia, with their ages ranging from 20 to 50 years old. They took the same flight to Taiwan for work on November 13. The three migrant workers didn’t develop any symptoms during the quarantine period. They were tested for COVID-19 on November 26 before completing the quarantine period, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on November 28.

Case #648 is an Indonesian migrant worker in his 20s. The Indonesian man came to Taiwan to work on November 15. He didn’t develop any symptoms after arrival and remained asymptomatic during the quarantine period. The CECC has suspended four Indonesian employment agencies from sending migrant workers to Taiwan since November 20. The CECC has also conducted retrospective testing among 30 migrant workers who had been sent to Taiwan by the four agencies and had entered Taiwan in October; as of now, a total of 27 migrant workers have been tested. Among those migrant workers, Case #648 was tested for COVID-19 on November 27, and he tested positive on November 28, while the other 26 migrant workers tested negative.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 109,612 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 107,619. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 648cases. Of the 648 confirmed cases, 556 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 556 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 85 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
