● Information for authors

I. Taiwan Epidemiology Bulletin is looking for manuscripts of topics relevant to Epidemiological or public health studies. It will accept reports of epidemiological investigations, original articles and reviews. To encourage authors to submit good quality manuscripts, the periodical will pay a small sum of money to authors of those accepted and published articles. However, the editorial committee of Taiwan Epidemiology Bulletin reserves the rights to either make corrections at its discretion after the manuscript has been accepted for publication, or to reject the ones considered unsuitable.
II. All manuscripts should not have already been or in the process of being published elsewhere in any language at the time of submission to Taiwan Epidemiology Bulletin. To avoid violation of this rule, the potential authors are advised to submit the manuscript to one journal at a time. Manuscripts with abstracts or summaries being published previously at somewhere else are not subjected to this rule. However, details of such publication including the name of the publication, volume number, and the publishing date should be addressed at this submission.
III. Once the manuscript is published by Taiwan Epidemiology Bulletin, the copyright of the article becomes the property of Taiwan Epidemiology Bulletin. All rights are reserved, i.e. no part of this article may be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means, without the prior permission in writing of Taiwan Epidemiology Bulletin.
IV. The submitted manuscript should be written principally in Chinese (we also welcome manuscripts in English). For original articles, the manuscript should be written in the following order: abstract, key words (maximum 5 words or phrases), introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, acknowledgement, references, and figures and tables. For Chinese original articles, please attach an English abstract with it. For other types of articles, they are not restricted to the above format, except an abstract is essential.
V. General rules for manuscript writing
(A) All Chinese part of the submitted manuscript should be typed in Word新細明體 and the English part in Word Times New Roman. The size of the scripts in the main context should be kept at 12, and the height of each row be set at 18.5 pt. The manuscript should be typed or printed on A4 paper with a margin of 2.5 cm in width all around. In principle the length of the submitted manuscript should be kept within 5,000 words and no more than 4 tables and/or figures attached. In addition, the length of the Chinese and English abstracts should be limited to 500 words and 300 words, respectively.
(B) The title page, abstract (including key words), main context, references, table, figure, and abstract translation all need to start from a new page of its own.
(C) The title page should include the following content:
1. Subject title
2. Names of the authors in both Chinese and English
3. Affiliations of the authors in both Chinese and English
4. Name, address, phone number, and fax number of the correspondent author.
(D) English terms placed in a parenthesis after its Chinese equivalent should not be capitalized unless it is a proper noun.
(E) Rule for using English abbreviations: except common measurement units, each abbreviation mentioned in the context for the first time should be fully spelled out.
(F) All numbers should be written in Arabic numerals. Metric measurement units are the only accepted system in the manuscript, and should be expressed with internationally recognized symbols or abbreviations.
(G) As for the heading, it is conventionally placed above a table but below a figure. For the numeral order, we use Arabic numerals such as Figure 1, Table 3, etc. In the English subject title, only the first word should be capitalized
(H) The references should be arranged in the order of being cited in the context. In principle the total number of references should be kept under 20. Wherever a reference is cited in the context, its Arabic numeral order should be placed in a parenthesis immediately afterwards, such as [5]. If the reference article contains less than 3 authors, the names of each author should all be addressed, whereas if there are four or more authors, only the first three names will be addressed, followed by a “等” in the Chinese version and “et al” in the English one.
An example for way of writing references is attached as an appendix.
VI. After a manuscript has been accepted for publication, the first author of the article will automatically receive 10 free copies of the issue bearing the very article as a complimentary gesture from Epidemiology Bulletin. If the author wishes to have more copies or reprints of the article, please make a reservation at the preliminary proofreading stage, and pay the costs accordingly.
VII. To submit manuscript, please make three identical copies and mail them to Taiwan Epidemiology Bulletin Editorial Committee, Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC), Ministry of Health and Welfare, The Executive Yuan, 6 Linshen S. Road, Taipei City, Taiwan, ROC. Or simply e-mail the electronic file to cdcteb@cdc.gov.tw. By all means please remember to address the contact person’s name, telephone number, mailing address, together with a manuscript submission statement signed by each and every author listed. After the manuscript is accepted for publication, and the subsequent corrections and proofreading process are completed, it is then the responsibility of the author(s) to provide a magnetic disc containing the final version of the manuscript for the use of type composing and printing.
