Abstract:

Beginning this month, a new communicable disease reporting system will go into effect in Taipei City and County. The purpose of the new system is to improve communicable disease reporting by simplifying the reporting form and distributing booklets of new forms to all government, private, and military clinics and hospitals. The new form (Figure 5) lists all the currently reportable and notifiable diseases, and includes several new diseases which we expect to add to the list of officially reportable diseases in the near future. The new diseases include rubella, congenital rubella syndrome, mumps, leprosy, gonorrhea, and syphilis. Another feature of the new reporting form is that the booklet automatically provides a copy of each completed form for the reporting physician’s records. In addition, each form is printed with the address of the local county or city health bureau on the back so it can be folded and mailed without postage.
