Abstract：

In 1990. a local officer of Fu-Teh census tracts in Ta-Chia Township. Taichung County (see map) asked the Taichung County Health Bureau to investigate the suspected high prevalence of goiter in that area and its relationship with the waste water discharged by the Youshi (Young ban) Industrial Park Industrial in the upper stream of the water source. The Taichung Health Bureau thereupon asked the National institute of Preventive Medicine for assistance in the investigation in October 1990.
