Abstract：

Endemic goiter is an important public health issue Although goiter at one time was highly prevalent in Taiwan. the average prevalence rate of goiter dropped to below 5%(3) after the general iodization of salt in 1967. The goiter prevalence rate of school children in Putai and Peimen townships was found to be around 5%(5) the goiter prevalence rates of school children of Kaomei and Hsichi primary schools were found to be 66% and 8.8% respectively in the present survey.
