CECC confirms 80 more COVID-19 cases, including 8 domestic cases and 72 imported cases


On March 5, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 80 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 80 new cases, eight are domestic and 72 are imported (41 of them tested positive after landing). The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the domestic cases, they are three men and five women, aged between under 10 and 79 years.

Regarding the 72 new imported cases, they are 26 men and 46 women, aged between under five and 69 years. Of the cases, 11 arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines, six from Canada, five from Hong Kong, four from Vietnam, three from the US, two each from Japan and Korea, and one each from Malaysia, Turkey, India, the UK, Thailand, the UAE, France, Singapore, Italy, Eswatini, South Africa, Dominican Republic, and Mexico; the areas the remaining 26 cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between January 9 and March 4, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 6,416,041 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 6,395,029. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 20,797 cases. Of the 20,797 confirmed cases, 5,284 are imported; 15,459 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 134 cases have been removed as confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 853 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 853 deaths, 839 are from domestic cases and the other 14 are from imported cases.
