CECC confirms 17,858 more COVID-19 cases, including 17,801 domestic cases and 57 imported cases

On May 2, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 17,858 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 17,858 new cases, 17,801 are domestic and 57 are imported (29 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced three deaths today.

Regarding the 17,801 new domestic cases, 8,623 are male and 9,167 are female, while the gender of the other 11 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to 99 years. Of those domestic cases, 6,584 were reported in New Taipei City, 3,718 in Taipei City, 2,577 in Taoyuan City, 874 in Keelung City, 839 in Taichung City, 660 in Kaohsiung City, 397 in Yilan County, 393 in Hualien County, 390 in Tainan City, 285 in Pingtung County, 228 in Hsinchu County, 203 in Changhua County, 142 in Yunlin County, 87 in Taitung County, 86 in Nantou County, 83 in Chiayi County, 81 in Miaoli County, 75 in Hsinchu City, 62 in Chiayi City, 16 in Kinmen County, 15 in Penghu County, and six in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the three deaths announced today, they were one man and two women between 70 and 99 years old. They were severe cases and had chronic diseases.

Regarding the 57 new imported cases, they were 30 men and 27 women ranging in age from under 5 to 89 years. The areas these cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between March 10 and May 1, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 8,537,162 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,383,732. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 150,808 cases. Of the 150,808 confirmed cases, 11,443 are imported; 139,311 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 871 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 871 deaths, 856 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
