CECC confirms 3 more imported COVID-19 cases; cases return to Taiwan from Philippines and Indonesia


On September 28, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced three new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. The three new cases are a Filipino man in his 20s (Case #511), a Filipino man in his 40s (Case #512), and a Taiwanese man in his 40s (Case #513). They entered Taiwan from the Philippines and Indonesia.

Case #511 took a flight to Taiwan from the Philippines for work on September 11. He was tested for COVID-19 upon arrival in Taiwan, and he tested negative. The case hasn't shown any suspected symptoms since arrival. The case was given another test on September 26, the day after the end of his quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on September 28.

Case #512 took a flight to Taiwan from his home country for work on September 23. He hasn't shown any suspected symptoms since arrival. The case was tested upon arrival, and the test result was weak positive. The case was tested again for COVID-19 on September 26. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on September 28.

Case #513 visited Indonesia for work in the second half of July. The case developed fatigue, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. He sought medical attention in Indonesia and was diagnosed with a stomach ulcer. The case returned to Taiwan by himself on September 26. He voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers of his previous symptoms upon arrival, and quarantine officers arranged his COVID-19 testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on September 28. The three cases are currently hospitalized in isolation for medical treatment.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 93,181 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 92,108. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 513 cases. Of the 513 confirmed cases, 421 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; and 1 case has unknown sources of infection. Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 482 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 24 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
