CECC confirms 2 more imported COVID-19 cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from Turkey and Indonesia

On November 19, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced two new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those two cases are an over 20-year-old female from Turkey (Case #609) and an over 20-year-old female from Indonesia (Case #610).

The CECC pointed out that the Turkish woman was a flight attendant for a foreign airline company. The woman was on duty on board a flight from Turkey to Taiwan on November 10. After she arrived in Taiwan, the Turkish woman stayed at a quarantine hotel. She experienced muscle pain and a fever on November 12. The airline company she worked for contacted a local healthcare facility to provide medical care for the woman at the quarantine hotel on November 13. The healthcare facility then notified Taiwan CDC of her health conditions. The Turkish woman was asked to be tested for COVID-19, and the case was reported to the health authority in accordance with the operating procedure on November 16. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 19.

Regarding Case #610, the CECC pointed out that the Indonesian woman came to Taiwan for work on November 17 and was detected and intercepted at the fever screening station by airport quarantine officers for her abnormal temperature upon arrival. The woman told quarantine officers that she had experienced fatigue, aches all over her body, and abdominal discomfort during the flight. Thus, her specimen was collected at the airport, and the case was reported to the health authority. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 19.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 106,576 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 105,091. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 609 cases. Of the 609 confirmed cases, 517 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 545 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 57 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
