CECC confirms 12 more COVID-19 cases, including 1 domestic case and 11 imported cases


On December 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 12 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 12 new cases, one is domestic and the other 11 are imported. The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the one new domestic case, Case #16882 is an over 80-year-old Taiwanese female. She sought medical attention for abdominal pain, fever and other symptoms on December 15. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 16 (the CT value was 39.9). She tested positive for anti-N antibody by serologic testing; the case has been determined to be a case of old infection.

Regarding the 11 new imported cases, they are four men and seven women, aged between 10 to 59 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from the US, Cambodia (three cases), the Philippines (two cases), the UK, Vietnam (two cases), Thailand, and Mongolia. They arrived between November 21 and December 14.

The CECC reported that a total of 4,710,205 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 4,689,895. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 16,771 cases. Of the 16,771 confirmed cases, 2,125 are imported; 14,592 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 111 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 849 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 849 deaths, 837 are from domestic cases and the other 12 are from imported cases.
