CECC confirms 2,481 more COVID-19 cases, including 2,386 domestic cases and 95 imported cases


On April 20, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 2,481 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 2,481 new cases, 2,386 are domestic and 95 are imported (82 of them tested positive after landing). The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the 2,386 new domestic cases, they are 1,232 men and 1,154 women ranging in age from under five to 99 years. They suffered the onset of symptoms between March 19 and April 20, while 1,267 of them didn't develop symptoms. Of those domestic cases, 822 were reported in New Taipei City, 471 in Taipei City, 387 in Taoyuan City, 191 in Keelung City, 97 in Kaohsiung City, 89 in Yilan County, 86 in Hualien County, 76 in Taichung City, 31 in Pingtung County, 24 in Tainan City, 23 in Hsinchu County, 17 each in Changhua County and Nantou County, 16 in Miaoli County, 14 in Yunlin County, 11 in Hsinchu City, five in Taitung County, three each in Chiayi City and Lienchiang County, two in Chiayi County, and one in Penghu County.

Regarding the 95 new imported cases, they are 54 men and 41 women ranging in age from under 10 to 69 years. Of the cases, four arrived from Vietnam and one each from the UK and Thailand; the areas the remaining 89 cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between March 21 and April 19, 2022.

Additionally, imported case#36770 from the US announced on April 19 has been reclassified as an domestic case after an epidemiological investigation; case#29861 announced on April 14, cases#34722 and 34723 announced on April 18, and case#37192 announced April 19 have been reclassified as imported cases after epidemiological investigations found the cases had arrived from Indonesia, Palau and France.

The CECC reported that a total of 7,831,697 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 7,791,199. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 40,186 cases. Of the 40,186 confirmed cases, 9,985 are imported; 30,147 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 203 cases (five newly added; three domestic cases and two imported cases were removed due to duplicate records or negative results after epidemiological investigations) have been removed as confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 856 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 856 deaths, 842 are from domestic cases and the other 14 are from imported cases.
