CECC confirms 578 more COVID-19 cases, including 442 domestic cases and 136 imported cases

On April 9, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 578 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 578 new cases, 442 are domestic and 136 are imported (107 of them tested positive after landing). The CECC announced one new death today.

Regarding the 442 new domestic cases, they are 230 men and 212 women ranging in age from under five to 89 years. They suffered the onset of symptoms between February 1 and April 9, while 250 of them didn't develop symptoms. Of those domestic cases, 143 were reported in New Taipei City, 95 in Taipei City, 41 in Taoyuan City, 39 in Keelung City, 38 in Kaohsiung City, 24 in Hualien County, 14 in in Pingtung County, 10 in Yilan County, nine in Chiayi County, eight in Hsinchu County, seven in Taichung City, six in Tainan City, three in Changhua County, two in Miaoli County, and one each in Hsinchu City, Yunlin County and Chiayi City.

Regarding the one death (Case #24458) announced today, the case was an over 90-year-old female with chronic disease. She was a contact of Case #23030 and diagnosed with COVID-19 on April 4. She passed away on April 7.

Regarding the 136 new imported cases, they are 65 men and 71 women ranging in age from under five to 79 years. Of the cases, seven arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines, four from Indonesia, two each from Korea and Singapore, and one each from the Netherlands, the UAE, Nepal, the US, Spain, Vietnam and Germany; the areas the remaining 114 cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between March 20 and April 8, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 7,317,662 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 7,290,468. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 26,836 cases. Of the 26,836 confirmed cases, 8,633 are imported; 18,149 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 144 cases (five newly added; four domestic cases and one imported case were removed due to negative test results) have been removed as confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 854 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 854 deaths, 840 are from domestic cases and the other 14 are from imported cases.
