On May 5, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 30,106 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 30,106 new cases, 30,035 are domestic and 71 are imported (36 of them tested positive after landing). The CECC announced five deaths today.
Regarding the 30,035 new domestic cases, 14,634 are male and 15,386 are female, while the gender of the other 15 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 10,122 were reported in New Taipei City, 6,422 in Taipei City, 4,872 in Taoyuan City, 1,776 in Taichung City, 1,136 in Kaohsiung City, 924 in Keelung City, 847 in Tainan City, 675 in Yilan County, 625 in Hualien County, 570 in Hsinchu County, 460 in Pingtung County, 382 in Changhua County, 246 in Yunlin County, 204 in Miaoli County, 194 in Hsinchu City, 152 in Taitung County, 151 in Nantou County, 121 in Chiayi County, 93 in Chiayi City, 35 in Penghu County, 22 in Kinmen County, and six in Lienchiang County.
Regarding the five deaths announced today, they were two men and three women between 20 and 89 years old. They were severe cases and had chronic diseases.
Regarding the 71 new imported cases, they were 37 men and 34 women ranging in age from under 5 to 79 years. The areas these cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between March 13 and May 4, 2022.
The CECC reported that a total of 8,740,450 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,503,984. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 232,402 cases. Of the 232,402 confirmed cases, 11,611 are imported; 220,737 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 886 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 886 deaths, 871 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
