CECC confirms 3 more imported COVID-19 cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from the Philippines, Myanmar, and the US


On January 27, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced three new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those three new cases (Cases #892-894) arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines, Myanmar, and the United States.

Case #892 is an over 30-year-old male migrant worker from the Philippines. The Philippine worker traveled to Taiwan on January 6. He hasn't developed any symptoms since arrival. After completing the quarantine period, he visited the hospital to take a self-paid COVID-19 test on January 25 at his labor broker's request. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on January 27.

Case #893 is an over 30-year-old male sailor from Myanmar. The sailor arrived in Taiwan on January 3. He hasn't experienced any symptoms since arrival. After completing the quarantine period, he took a self-paid COVID-19 test on January 25. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on January 27.

Case #894 is a Taiwanese woman in her 40s. The Taiwanese woman returned to Taiwan from the United States on January 17. During the home quarantine period, she experienced a cough, runny nose, and sore throat on January 19. Her symptoms improved after taking over-the-counter medicines. As she experienced diarrhea and fever on January 24, the health authority arranged for her to seek medical attention and undergo testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on January 27.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 148,606 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 145,579. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 893 cases. Of the 893 confirmed cases, 783 are imported; 71 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 803 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 83 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
