CECC confirms 40,304 more COVID-19 cases, including 40,263 domestic cases and 41 imported cases

On May 9, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 40,304 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 40,304 new cases, 40,263 are domestic and 41 are imported (21 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced 12 deaths today.

Regarding the 40,263 new domestic cases, 19,317 are male and 20,936 are female, while the gender of the other 10 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 14,179 were reported in New Taipei City, 7,057 in Taipei City, 6,358 in Taoyuan City, 2,099 in Taichung City, 1,910 in Kaohsiung City, 1,480 in Keelung City, 1,448 in Tainan City, 992 in Yilan County, 773 in Pingtung County, 767 in Hualien County, 758 in Hsinchu County, 497 in Changhua County, 370 in Yunlin County, 340 in Miaoli County, 336 in Hsinchu City, 276 in Taitung County, 197 in Nantou County, 180 in Chiayi County, 131 in Chiayi City, 89 in Penghu County, 17 in Kinmen County, and 9 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 12 deaths announced today, they were 10 men and two women ranging in age from 50 to above 90 years old. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 41 new imported cases, they were 22 men and 19 women ranging in age from under 10 to 79 years. The areas these cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between March 23 and May 8, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 9,018,466 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,619,519. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 397,504 cases. Of the 397,504 confirmed cases, 11,914 are imported; 385,536 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 931 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 931 deaths, 916 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
