CECC confirms 2 more imported cases; two cases arrive in Taiwan from Indonesia and the Philippines


On April 4, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced two new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those two new cases arrived in Taiwan from Indonesia (Case #1047) and the Philippines (Case #1048), respectively.

Case #1047 is an over 20-year-old man from Indonesia. He traveled to Taiwan for studies on March 31. He experienced a fever, runny nose, and headache on April 2. The health authority then arranged for him to seek medical attention and undergo COVID-19 testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 4.

Case #1048 is a Taiwanese male in his 60s. He worked in the Philippines for an extended period of time. He developed a fever in the Philippines and sought medical attention on March 23. He later tested positive for COVID-19, and was admitted to a local hospital for treatment. He took an international air ambulance to Taiwan on April 2. After he arrived in Taiwan on April 3, he was admitted to a hospital for isolation care and testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 4.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 191,609 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 189,730. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1047 cases. Of the 1047 confirmed cases, 931 are imported; 77 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 10 deaths, and 997 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 40 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
