CECC confirms 2 more imported COVID-19 cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from the US and Indonesia

On November 26, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced two new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those two new cases are a Taiwanese male in his 20s (Case #625) and an Indonesian woman in her 50s (Case #626). They arrived in Taiwan from the United States and Indonesia.

The Taiwanese man visited the United States for studies in the second half of August. He developed a sore throat and cough on November 20. When he returned to Taiwan on November 24, the man voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers of his symptoms. He had his specimen collected upon arrival. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 26.

The Indonesian woman came to Taiwan to attend to personal business and visit friends on November 9. The woman showed no symptoms upon arrival. After entry, she stayed at a quarantine hotel to undergo quarantine, and she began to develop a mild headache, coughing, and other symptoms on November 22. The woman didn't report her symptoms because she thought she was only experiencing mild symptoms. However, after completing the quarantine period on November 24, she still experienced discomfort. She then sought medical attention the same day. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on November 26.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 108,549 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 106,868. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 625 cases. Of the 625 confirmed cases, 533 are imported; 55 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 7 deaths, and 555 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 63 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
