CECC confirms 5 more imported COVID-19 cases


On July 28, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced five new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the five new cases (Cases #463-467), four arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines, and the other one arrived from Hong Kong.

Case #463 is an over 50-year-old male who visited the Philippines for work in March. The case returned to Taiwan on July 26 and was found to have a slightly elevated temperature at the airport. After quarantine officers arranged his COVID-19 testing, the case was taken to a group quarantine facility. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 28.

Case #464 is an over 30-year-old male who traveled to Hong Kong for work in January. The case returned to Taiwan on July 26. He voluntarily reported his symptoms to airport quarantine officers who then arranged his COVID-19 testing. The case was taken to a group quarantine facility. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 28.

Case #465 is an over 30-year-old male who visited the Philippines for work in January. He sought medical attention for his abnormal sense of smell and taste in the Philippines on June 16. He took a COVID-19 test the same day, but he tested negative. Case #465 returned to Taiwan on July 26. He voluntarily reported his previous symptoms to airport quarantine officers who then arranged his COVID-19 testing. The case was taken to a group quarantine facility. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 28.

Case #466 is an over 70-year-old male, and Case #467 is an over 70-year-old female. They are a couple. The couple traveled to the Philippines to visit their relatives in January. The two cases returned to Taiwan on July 26. Case #466 didn’t have any symptoms upon entry into Taiwan. Case #467 reported her symptoms to airport quarantine officers before boarding and upon entry. After quarantine officers arranged their COVID-19 testing, they were taken to a quarantine hotel and a group quarantine facility, respectively. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the two cases on July 28.

The five cases are currently hospitalized in isolation for medical treatment.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 80,825 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 79,785. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 467 cases. Of 467 confirmed cases in Taiwan, 376 are imported and 55 are indigenous while 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship.
