COVID-19 vaccination is the most effective way to prevent infection and reduce severe illness and deaths from COVID-19; CECC continues to monitor adverse reactions following vaccination

On June 17, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported that as of June 16, a total of 1,133,515 people were vaccinated with the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in Taiwan; of them, 174,098 are elderly people aged 75 and older. According to the results from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), 11 cases of deaths following vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine have been reported; eight of which were elderly people aged 75 and older, and most cases of death were elderly people with chronic diseases.

The CECC emphasized that as of now, no cases of death have been confirmed to be linked to the vaccine. The CECC will continue to monitor adverse events following vaccination. The CECC reminds members of the public eligible for vaccination in this phase to follow instructions of city and county governments to be vaccinated so as to prevent infection and build herd immunity which can prevent transmission.
