On September 1, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced six new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the six new cases, one is domestic and the other five are imported. The CECC reported one death today.

Regarding the new domestic case (Case #16110), the case is an over 60-year-old female who came into contact with a confirmed case. She was tested for COVID-19 on August 31, before the end of her isolation period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on September 1.

Regarding the one death announced today, Case #9686 was an over 60-year-old male with chronic disease and history of contact with other confirmed cases.

Regarding the five new imported cases, they arrived in Taiwan from the United Arab Emirates (two cases), Nigeria, Nicaragua, and the US. They arrived between July 2 and August 30.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,707,449 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,690,627. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 16,001 cases. Of the 16,001 confirmed cases, 1,420 are imported (Case#16087, originally classified as a domestic case, has been reclassified as an imported case from the US as the case's antibody test result showed infection not acquired recently) ; 14,528 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 836 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 836 deaths, 826 are from domestic cases and the other 10 are from imported cases.
