CECC confirms 7 more imported cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan and the US


On May 5, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced seven new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those seven new cases arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines (Case #1155), Indonesia (Case #1156 and Cases #1159-1161), Japan (Case #1157) and the United States (Case #1158).

Case #1155 is an over 20-year-old female migrant worker from the Philippines. The female migrant worker traveled to Taiwan for work on April 20. She was tested on May 3, before completing the quarantine period, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 5.

Case #1156 is an over 30-year-old fisherman from Indonesia. He traveled to Taiwan for work on April 20. He was tested on May 3 before completing the quarantine period, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 5 (the CT value was 31).

Case #1157 is an over 40-year-old man from Japan. The Japanese man traveled to Taiwan for official business on April 28. He experienced an itchy throat and muscle pain on May 2. The health authority then arranged for him to seek medical attention and undergo testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 5 (the CT value was 21).

Case #1158 is a Taiwanese male in his 20s. While he worked in the United States, he was diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 23. He returned to Taiwan on April 11. During the quarantine period, he was tested for COVID-19 twice, and the test results came back negative. Due to work requirements, he visited to the hospital to take a self-paid test on May 3; infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 5 (the CT value was 31; he had a CT value of 33 while hospitalized, and he tested positive for both IgM and IgG antibodies).

Case #1159 and Case #1160 are an Indonesian female in her 20s and an Indonesian male in his teens, respectively. They traveled to Taiwan for studies on April 21. After completing the quarantine period, they were tested on May 4. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on May 5 (Case #1159 had a CT value of 33; Case #1160 had a CT value of 34).

Case #1161 is an over 10-year-old fisherman from Indonesia. He traveled to Taiwan for work on April 21. He was tested on May 4 before completing the quarantine period, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on May 5.
