CECC confirms 28,487 more COVID-19 cases, including 28,420 domestic cases and 67 imported cases


On May 4, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 28,487 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 28,487 new cases, 28,420 are domestic and 67 are imported (20 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced five deaths today.

Regarding the 28,420 new domestic cases, 13,664 are male and 14,744 are female, while the gender of the other 12 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years.

Of those domestic cases, 10,151 were reported in New Taipei City, 5,538 in Taipei City, 4,814 in Taoyuan City, 1,680 in Taichung City, 1,021 in Kaohsiung City, 1,003 in Keelung City, 795 in Tainan City, 542 in Hsinchu County, 525 in Yilan County, 450 in Hualien County, 428 in Pingtung County, 313 in Changhua County, 257 in Yunlin County, 194 in Miaoli County, 182 in Hsinchu City, 140 in Chiayi County, 138 in Nantou County, 117 in Taitung County, 72 in Chiayi City, 34 in Penghu County, 20 in Kinmen County, and six in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the five deaths announced today, they were two men and three women ranging in age from 20 to above 90 years old. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 67 new imported cases, they were 37 men and 30 women ranging in age from under 5 to 89 years. The areas these cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between March 8 and May 3, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 8,674,722 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,469,484. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 202,418 cases. Of the 202,418 confirmed cases, 11,548 are imported; 190,816 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 881 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 881 deaths, 866 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
