On September 2, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced five new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the five new cases, one is domestic and the other four are imported. The CECC reported one death today.

Regarding the domestic case (Case #16112), the case is an over 30-year-old male. He sought medical attention for other illness and was tested for COVID-19. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on September 2.

Regarding the one death (Case #9933) announced today, the case was an over 60-year-old male with chronic disease.

Regarding the four new imported cases, they arrived in Taiwan from the US (two cases), Russia, and South Africa. They arrived between August 19 and August 27.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,733,767 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,716,052. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 16,006 cases. Of the 16,006 confirmed cases, 1,424 are imported; 14,529 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 837 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 837 deaths, 827 are from domestic cases and the other 10 are from imported cases.
