CECC confirms 80,705 more COVID-19 cases, including 80,656 domestic cases and 49 imported cases

On May 31, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 80,705 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 80,705 new cases, 80,656 are domestic and 49 are imported (18 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced 90 deaths today.

Regarding the 80,656 new domestic cases, 38,638 are male and 42,001 are female, while the gender of the other 17 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years.

Of those domestic cases, 14,372 were reported in New Taipei City, 10,586 in Taichung City, 10,380 in Kaohsiung City, 7,826 in Taoyuan City, 6,707 in Taipei City, 6,485 in Tainan City, 4,740 in Changhua County, 2,960 in Pingtung County, 2,064 in Hsinchu County, 1,970 in Miaoli County, 1,734 in Hsinchu City, 1,649 in Yilan County, 1,631 in Keelung City, 1,610 in Yunlin County, 1,381 in Nantou County, 1,295 in Hualien County, 1,146 in Chiayi County, 866 in Taitung County, 776 in Chiayi City, 263 in Penghu County, 206 in Kinmen County, and nine in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 90 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 60 men and 30 women ranging in age from 40 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 49 new imported cases, they were 27 men and 22 women ranging in age from under 5 to 99 years. The areas these cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between May 29 and 30, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 11,161,945 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 9,132,564. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 2,032,983 cases. Of the 2,032,983 confirmed cases, 12,988 are imported; 2,019,941 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 2,255 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 2,255 deaths, 2,240 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
