CECC confirms 1 more indigenous COVID-19 case; a contact of Case #838 confirmed to have COVID-19

On January 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced one new confirmed indigenous case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. The new case, Case #852, is a Taiwanese woman in her 20s.

The CECC pointed out that Case #852 is a professional nurse working at the same hospital as Case #838. Case #852 came into contact with Case #838 briefly at work. Case #852 was given a COVID-19 test, and the test result came back negative on January 11. The professional nurse began to experience a mild cough and an itchy throat on January 14. Because the case developed a fever on January 15, the case visited the hospital to undergo COVID-19 testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on January 16. The case is hospitalized in an isolation ward for treatment.
