CECC confirms 6 more COVID-19 cases, including 4 domestic cases and 2 imported cases


On August 23, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced six new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the six new cases, four are domestic and the other two are imported. The CECC reported no deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the four domestic cases (of whom, two tested positive while they in home isolation or completed their isolation period), two are male and the other two are female, aged between 20 to 79 years old. Two of the cases began to suffer the onset of symptoms on August 15 and August 20, respectively, while the remaining two didn't experience symptoms. Regarding those domestic cases, all the cases were reported in New Taipei City.

Regarding the two new imported cases, Case #16037 is Russian woman in her 20s. She traveled to Taiwan from Russia for studies on August 11. She experienced nasal congestion on August 20, and the health authority arranged for her to be tested for COVID-19 on August 21. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 23.

Case #16038 is a Lithuanian man in his 40s. He traveled to Taiwan from Lithuania for work on August 13. He developed a fever, coughing and other symptoms on August 21, and the health authority arranged for him to be tested. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 23.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,502,861 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,485,203. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,932 cases. Of the 15,932 confirmed cases, 1,373 are imported; 14,506 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 828 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 828 deaths, 820 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
