CECC confirms 3 more imported COVID-19 cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from Indonesia, Ghana, and the US


On February 7, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced three new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those three new cases (Case #926-928) arrived in Taiwan from Indonesia, Ghana, and the United States.

Case #926 is an over 20-year-old man from Indonesia. The Indonesian man traveled to Taiwan for studies on February 4. Upon arrival, he voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers that he experienced symptoms of COVID-19. Quarantine officers then arranged his COVID-19 test. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on February 7.

Case #927 is a Taiwanese man in his 30s. He worked in Ghana for an extended period of time and returned to Taiwan on February 3. When he arrived in Taiwan, the Taiwanese man showed coughing. Quarantine officers then arranged his COVID-19 test. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on February 7.

Case #928 is an American man in his 40s. He experienced coughing on January 3. The American man sought medical attention in the United States, and he was diagnosed with bronchitis. He arrived in Taiwan for work on February 5. He voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers of his symptoms upon arrival. Quarantine officers then arranged his COVID-19 test. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on February 7.

The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 163,928 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 161,318. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 927 cases. Of the 927 confirmed cases, 812 are imported; 76 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 9 deaths, and 844 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 74 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
