CECC confirms 82,435 more COVID-19 cases, including 82,363 domestic cases and 72 imported cases

On May 24, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 82,435 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 82,435 new cases, 82,363 are domestic and 72 are imported (39 of them tested positive upon landing). The CECC announced 42 deaths today.

Regarding the 82,363 new domestic cases, 39,116 are male and 43,212 are female, while the gender of the other 35 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 16,609 were reported in New Taipei City, 10,532 in Taoyuan City, 9,437 in Kaohsiung City, 8,989 in Taichung City, 8,566 in Taipei City, 5,593 in Tainan City, 4,120 in Changhua County, 2,670 in Pingtung County, 2,186 in Hsinchu County, 2,128 in Yilan County, 1,897 in Keelung City, 1,630 in Miaoli County, 1,583 in Hsinchu City, 1,243 in Nantou County, 1,216 in Yunlin County, 1,211 in Hualien County, 911 in Taitung County, 890 in Chiayi County, 585 in Chiayi City, 210 in Penghu County, 119 in Kinmen County, and 38 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 42 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 25 men and 17 women ranging in age from 10 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 72 new imported cases, they were 44 men and 28 women ranging in age from under five to 79 years. Of the cases, seven arrived from the US, and two from France; the areas these cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between May 22 and 23, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 10,453,240 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,987,906. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1,469,019 cases. Of the 1,469,019 confirmed cases, 12,631 are imported; 1,456,334 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 1,478 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 1,478 deaths, 1,463 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
