CECC confirms 62 more COVID-19 cases, including 4 domestic cases and 58 imported cases


On January 7, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 62 new confirmed case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of those cases, four (Cases #17368-17371) are domestic, and the other 58 are imported. The CECC announced no deaths today.

Regarding the domestic cases, they are one Taiwanese man and three Taiwanese women, aged between 20 and 59 years old. They are linked to the cluster infection at the airport in Taoyuan.

Regarding the 58 new imported cases, they are 29 men and 29 women, aged between 10 to 79 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from the US (35 cases), France (four cases), the UK (three cases), Switzerland (two cases), Vietnam (two cases), India (two cases), Austria, Chile, Germany, Canada, Ireland, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Mexico, Spain, and Costa Rica. They all arrived between December 22, 2021, and January 6, 2022.

The CECC reported that a total of 5,055,274 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 5,035,769. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 17,258 cases. Of the 17,258 confirmed cases, 2,588 are imported; 14,616 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 113 cases (two newly added) have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 850 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 850 deaths, 838 are from domestic cases and the other 12 are from imported cases.
